Join master sculptor Josh Guge for this 1-day seminar on painting a detailed Winter Wren. This is a painting class only, so you will have to have a finished wood-carved Wren ready or a study cast to paint. Demonstration videos were made during a class he taught at his studio in Elgin. The seminar includes 24 demonstration videos ranging from 5 to 20 minutes in length. The videos are loaded with important information you need to learn on how to fully paint this beautiful little bird!
Josh covers every aspect of the painting process. Using thin washes of Liquitex acrylic paints, Josh establishes the base colors of the bird. He will then show how he creates all the little details including the stripes, baring, and dots that these Wrens are known for.
Josh is known for simplifying this complex process and helping students of all skill levels reach their personal goals.

*Students need to search for and purchase the following products to participate in the class. Just type ”Winter Wren” in the search bar and these products will be displayed.
Winter Wren cutout: Tupelo wood cutout that matches the pattern Josh uses in the class. If you plan to carve the wren a head of time, use the wren cast for reference as there is no instruction on carving the wren in this painting class.
Winter Wren cast: A resin reproduction of winter Wren sculpted by Josh.
Winter Wren packet: 1 pattern drawing of the Wren, 1 painted pattern, 1 color chart.
All of these products are available on this site. If you have already purchased any of these products in the past, you don’t need to get a second set. Just purchase the items you don’t currently have.
Students are encouraged to watch all of the videos before they begin to paint. This way they will understand the process better and how each step will build on the next.
